Kurt Baier's essay, "The Justification of Governmental Authority".  The question he raises, obviously, is can a government ever have justified authority. 

Robert Trivers's essay "Parental Investment and Reproductive Success" is one of the most seminal essays in evolutionary biology that has been written in the past 60-70 years.  It is a tough essay; and I don't expect anyone to master it.  Rather, I merely ask that you look over any part that has the words "parental investment" and think about whether or not women and men may think about autonomy different. 

How Much Should We Value Autonomy  This essay by Marina Oshana is what we shall discuss next.  If you could read some of it by next Tuesday--say, the first 9 pages, i.e., up to but not including Section III.
